Artist statement
Marie creates abstract paintings that highlight the contrast between the order, symmetry, and mathematical complexity of detailed patterns, and the spontaneous, chaotic nature of mixed media techniques. Her starting point is usually color, as she deeply explores the science of color mixing and the neuroscience of perception. Through workshops, she helps others convey emotions, memories, and sensations. Maria’s process is spontaneous and emotional, using acrylics, watercolors, and gel pens. Inspired by nature, cinema, literature, and people, she begins her work without knowing the outcome, allowing the art to reveal itself. For Maria, creating art is both a form of relaxation and a tool for mental health. She enjoys the tactile experience, the transformative process, and the reactions her work elicits in others.
Marie Serren
Marie, a dynamic artist born in 1984 in Minsk, has navigated a remarkable
journey from a USSR childhood to an international design career and painting.
Growing up in a modest family, Maria was inspired by her mother’s drawings
and began monetizing her skills early, creating her first paid logo at age 12.
Despite societal skepticism towards art, she pursued diverse studies and
worked as a school psychologist before transitioning to graphic design,
eventually working at Google. Relocating to Poland, Maria faced significant
challenges, but art remained her sanctuary. She now focuses on fine art,
specifically abstract acrylic painting, and graphics exploring themes of
transformation and emotional catharsis. Her work reflects her resilience and
inspires others to use art for self-expression and healing, highlighting its
therapeutic power.
